Ever since the Amazon Prime Web show Tandav helmed by noted director Ali Abbas Zafar and led by Saif Ali Khan, Gauahar Khan, Kritika Kamra, Sunil Grover among others was released on the OTT platform, it landed in legal trouble. Early this month, multiple FIRs were filed against the makers and actors of the show in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar Police station under sections 153 (A), 295 (A) and 505 (2) of IPC. The hearing of the case was scheduled for today in the Supreme Court and here’s the latest update from the Tandav row.

As per the latest reports, the Supreme Court has refused to grant interim protection to the makers and cast from the arrest. The list includes the names of Tandav makers, actors, head of Amazon Prime India Aparna Purohit, who failed to get the protection against the multiple FIRs that have been filed against them. At the hearing Petitioners were represented by Senior Advocates Fali Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi (for Amazon India Creative Head Aparna Purohit) Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra (for producer Himanshu Mehra, director Ali Abbas Zafar and writer Gaurav Solanki) and Senior Advocate Siddharth Agarwal (for actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), reports Live Law.

The Bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah announced the decision and said, “Your right to freedom of speech is not absolute. You cannot play the role of a character that hurts the sentiments of a community.” “We cannot use the power under Section 482 CrPC. We are not inclined to grant interim protection,” said the Bench further. The bench also told the makers, “You cannot hurt religious sentiments.”

Live Law also Tweeted, “#Tandav Series Row: Supreme Court issues notice on the prayers for transferring and clubbing of FIRs. Bench rejects the prayer for granting of interim protection from arrest.
