VIDEO: Shah Rukh Khan’s Untold Facts

I’d like to tell about 2-3 people whom I met when for the first time I had come to Mumbai, to work in the television industry. They were Aziz, Saeed and Kundan Shah( made films like Chalte Chalte)  who owned Iskra and Rogopag.

I reached at the airport, neither knew the address nor had any place to live as I had come the city for the very first time.

I remember Kundan, Bakul, Aziz and their whole family, Nirmala gave me their place to live in. firstly they kept me in their office, but I use to face a lot of problems over there, because they used to open the office sharp at 9 a.m., and used to wake me too, but yeah with chai and gujrati food,so that way it was fun and I started staying in their office in Bandra.

After that I got married but didn’t have any place to settle in, and it was then when Aziz gave me his house to reside in.

I am just telling all these things because these people aren’t my filmmakers they are my life makers, without them I wouldn’t have been here today. I’m not praising them, I am saying this selfishly for myself. I need to say and express this because there are many people who don’t know or understand this part of me, because anytime I go anywhere its like “ Shah Rukh Khan” “ big superstar” - but its not at all about me ever.

Then there was this time when Aziz wanted the house back, and I had to buy a house on rent. At that time I didn’t have enough money for the same, so I very well remember, Rajiv Mehra called me and gave me money for the kiraya of my house.

These are the small instances that made me feel that ‘main Mumbai mein movie star ban sakta hun’. There’s a very famous line, which even my friend Anupama Chopra wrote in her book, which says – main ek din Mumbai ko own karunga, that courage of even thinking or saying it was there simply because I had backing of all these people.

I still remember, Rajiv’s father saying: ‘You’re going to get married but married actors are not able to become successful here’.

He realized that, maybe I didn’t understand that, and ab to shaadi ho rahi thi, ab kya karenge, so he landed up for the wedding very sweetly.

I remember Abbas - Mustan  coming to me and wanting me to do this film. Resultantly I did and got the Best Actor award for it too. So I went to their house to meet them, I never understood (I’m sorry I’m talking personal Abbas - Mustan bhai) the hardships they lived in, but made these beautiful films and never made me realize that  I had become a star and the director was still to make it there. They  were the ones to make the greatest films of my career, perhaps Baazigar. There are so many of them , and they all have come together and helped me become who I am, not just as a movie star or an actor, but as the person that I am and I owe this to them.

Its humbling that I come here, it’s awkward that I come here because mujhe, mere haq kaa jo hota hai, that’s very important to me, lekin actually is saari success ke upar mera koi haq nahi hai.
