This song, which gained over 28 million views on YouTube, was recently removed from the platform due to copyright infringement. The original song, "Akh Ladi Bado Badi," was sung by Noor Jehan for Mamtaz in the movie "Banarasi Thag." Chahat Fateh Ali Khan released his rendition of this iconic track on YouTube in April this year, and it quickly became a hit. According to Times Now, the song was taken down from YouTube on June 6 following a copyright strike. The video featured Pakistani actor Wajdan Rao Ranghar alongside the singer.
As the song gained popularity, people began using it to create memes and humorous posts. The viral success of the song also led to trolling of the actor featured in it. The Indian Express quoted Ranghar saying, "Unfortunately, I performed in the song out of desperation. People are trolling me and asking why I would agree to feature in this song. I replied I didn’t have money to buy clothes for Eid, and it is better than stealing."
Kashif Rana, better known by his stage name Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, is a multifaceted artist born in Sheikhupura in March 1965. He is a singer, musician, songwriter, actor, and director. Khan attended Government High School Sheikhupura and graduated from Government College University Lahore (GCUL). He then studied History at the University of the Punjab in Lahore before moving to London. In an interview, Khan revealed that cricket was his first love, but his passion shifted to music over time. He believes that "everyone can sing," though some may need to put in more effort than others.
Despite the controversy surrounding his rendition of "Akh Ladi Bado Badi," Chahat Fateh Ali Khan's diverse talents and passion for music continue to define his artistic journey. The incident highlights the challenges artists face with copyright issues and the unpredictable nature of internet fame.
