On the morning of July 24, a technical snag occurred between Sion and Matunga railway stations during peak hours, leading to a significant failure in train services. This disruption forced many commuters to walk along the railway tracks, a scene captured in several pictures and videos circulating on social media.
Agnihotri shared one such video on his official X account, expressing his dismay with the caption: "Mumbaikars walking on railway tracks to reach their office due to failure of local train service. Just ask a simple question: Can you even imagine torture of citizens like this in any civilised country?" His post resonated with many Mumbaikars, who echoed his frustration over the frequent delays on the Central Line, particularly exacerbated by the heavy monsoon rains.
This incident is not the first time Agnihotri has criticized Mumbai's civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), for its handling of infrastructure and maintenance issues. The director, who is known for being vocal about various civic problems, had recently taken a sarcastic jab at the BMC over the city's pothole issues. He shared a newspaper clipping on X that featured a photo of a bus cautiously navigating around potholes on Bhandup's Quarry Road. In a mocking tone, Agnihotri suggested that the BMC should install signboards at each pothole, proudly displaying its depth to help drivers avoid them, referring to the potholes as "urban swimming pools."
