Virat Kohli Becomes The First Batter In The History Of IPL To Complete 8000 Runs, Ends THIS Season With The Orange Cap
During the IPL 2024 Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli reached another significant milestone in his illustrious career. Kohli became the first batter in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to complete 8000 runs. In RCB’s last league stage match against Chennai Super Kings, the 35-year-old was just 29 runs short of this milestone, being dismissed for 47. However, Kohli made up for it by achieving the required runs in the ongoing Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.

Kohli reached this milestone in the sixth over of RCB’s batting innings. He hit a full-toss delivery from Sandeep Sharma towards mid-on for a four, thereby completing his 8000th run. Unfortunately, his stay at the crease ended soon after, as he was dismissed for 33 off 24 balls by Rajasthan Royals' spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, with RCB at 56/2 in the eighth over.

Virat Kohli has been in sensational form this IPL season. He currently leads the Orange Cap race, having scored 741 runs, which includes a century and six fifties, at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69 over 15 matches. Kohli, known as one of the greatest Indian batters, also leads in T20 runs across various levels. He is the highest run-getter in T20 Internationals (T20Is), amassing 4037 runs, including a century and 37 fifties, at an average of 51.75 and a strike rate of 138.15 in 117 matches.

In addition, Kohli is the top run-scorer in T20 World Cups, with 1141 runs, including 14 fifties, at an impressive average of 81.50 and a strike rate of 131.30 over 25 innings. In the IPL, Kohli has aggregated 8004 runs, including eight centuries and 55 fifties, at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 131.97 across 252 matches, holding the record for the most centuries in the league’s history.

Overall, Kohli is currently the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, with 12702 runs, including nine centuries and 96 fifties, at an average of 42.05 and a strike rate of 134.49 across 390 matches.
