Veteran Odia Actress Jharna Das Passes Away At 77 Dure To Age-Related Ailment; President Droupadi Murmu Mourns The Loss
Odia film actress Jharna Das has left for her heavely abode. She passed away due to age-related ailments at the age of 77. She breathed her last on December 2. As reported by India TV, family sources informed that the veteran died at her residence on Thursday night.

Expressing grief over the loss, India’s president Droupadi Murmu took to social media. She shared that the late actress will always be remembered for her contribution to the Odia film industry. She wrote, “Saddened to know about the demise of legendary Odia actress Jharana Das. She will always be remembered for her outstanding contribution to Odia film industry. My deepest condolences to the family and her admirers.”


Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik shared their condolences with the family members. Quoted by India TV, in a statement, Patnaik shared, “Her impactful performance on stage and film will always be remembered. May her soul rest in peace and my condolence to the bereaved family.” 

For the unversed, Jharana Das started her acting career during the 1960s. She won several accolades for her brilliant performances in groundbreaking films like Shree Jagannath, Nari, Adinamegha, Hisabnikas, Pujafula, Amadabata, Abhinetri, Malajanha and Heera Nella. 

She had also worked as a child artist and an announcer at the All India Radio, Cuttack. Das also gained experience in directing by assisting the station director of Doordarshan in Cuttack. Her direction in the biographical documentary on former Odisha chief minister Harekrushna Mahtab was lauded by many.
