Smriti Irani Recalls Her FIRST Job, Reveals She Sold Cosmetics On Delhi Streets At The Age Of 7; Former Actress Says, ‘Din Ke Dihari The 200 Rupay’
Smriti Irani opened up about how she had to sell cosmetics on the streets of Delhi at the age of 7 as she and her family were facing financial crisis
Former actress, television producer, and the Minister of Women and Child Development of India, Smriti Irani has led a life full of struggle. She never shies away from opening up about it and sharing insights from her personal experiences. For the unversed, she became a household name in the 2000s, when she shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor’s hit television serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She recently opened up about her first job and revealed that it was because she and her family were thrown out of their rented home.
Talking about the financial crisis she and her family faced, the actress-turned-politician explained that at the age of seven, she had to sell cosmetics on the streets of Delhi. She opened up about the unheard anecdote from her life during an interview with Curly Tales. She spoke about the dire financial crisis they went through. Quoted by BollywoodShaadis, the 27-year-old recalled, “Saat saal ki umar ki thi when we were thrown out of our house. Meri jo pehli naukri thi woh thi beauty products bechna sadak pe. Further during the interview, she also revealed that at one point in her life, she had gone to interview for the post of an air hostess. However, she walked out of the job after seeing the work she needed to do. According to Smriti, she said, “personality nahi hai.” From there she went to India’s first McDonald's outlet as even they were conducting job interviews. Recalling the same, she added, “Side mein jo hindustan ka pehla Mc Donalds hai, uska interview chal raha tha. Unhone kaha ek hi position bacha hai, who entry level hai. Maine kaha kya hai kaam? Irani went on to reveal that she was paid Rs 1,800 per month as a cleaner in the fast food franchise. Incidentally, she earned the same amount, every day, as she began her acting career as an actress with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She revealed that she had no option but to switch her career just to earn more money.
For the unversed, Smriti made her acting debut with Aatish in 1999, before she featured in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi from 2000-2008. She quit acting in 2013 and decided to join politics.
