In a shocking turn of events, Ajith Kumar’s fan passed away after he jumped from a slow-moving lorry on Poonamallee highways near Rohini theatre in Chennai. The man identified as Bharath Kumar died on the spot due to injuries. He was on his way to watch the 1 am screening of Ajith’s highly-awaited film Thunivu. Further details are awaited on the same. A case has been registered.   

Confirming the same, ANI tweeted, “Bharath Kumar, a fan of actor Ajith Kumar, who jumped in excitement from a slow-moving lorry succumbed to injuries on Poonamallee highways near Rohini theatre, Chennai. Case registered. He had come to watch #Thunivu film's 1 am show at the theater: Police officials.” Reportedly, ardent fans of Ajith protested against Vijay's Varisu and tore down its banners placed at a theatre. Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu and Vijay’s Varisu locked horns at the box office and were among the most highly-awaited movies of this year. Both movies were released on the same day after 8 long years. 

News agency ANI also posted a video of Ajith and Vijay fans gathered outside a movie theatre in Tamil Nadu bursting firecrackers and dancing as they celebrate the release of both films. The shows for both Varisu and Thunivu, respectively, began at 1 am and 4 am in theatres. And both the movies are flying high at the box office, while Varisu sold tickets worth Rs. 11.49 crores gross through advance booking for the opening day, Ajith’s Thunivu sold tickets worth Rs. 10.83 crores gross.
