Pakistani Singer Who Accused Ali Zafar During The #MeToo Movement Faces Three Years In Jail
As per latest reports, Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi, who leveled serious allegations again singer Ali Zafar now faces three years in jail
During the #MeToo movement, Pakistani singer named Meesha Shafi accused pop star Ali Zafar of allegedly groping her in a recording studio. Post the allegations made by Meesha, Ali Zafar categorically denied all her claims and even filed a defamation case against her. Earlier in September 2020, it was reported that Pakistani Law Enforcement agency had booked Meesha of running a smear campaign against Ali Zafar. Now, latest reports state that she will possibly spend three years in jail.
As reported by Dailymail.co.uk, Meesha Shafi has been given three years in jail, the maximum punishment in a case filed by Ali Zafar. He filed the defamation case reportedly stating that her claims led to 'irreparable' damage to his career. As reported by the portal, Meesha Shafi called the system 'rigged' and stated, "Which woman has got justice in a case of this nature and at what cost?'" Reportedly, now her lawyers are planning to challenge the decision.
In 2019, when Ali Zafar had appeared on Geo News show, Naya Pakistan, and opened up on the allegation. He got teary-eyed and said, “All of us have been quietly suffering for so long. Not just me, but my family - my kids and my wife too. I haven’t said a single word in the last one year as I had decided to take action legally through court’s procedures. But they have been making fake accounts and tagging everyone who tries to hire me in tweets against me in order to ruin my career.”
