The much-anticipated first look of Mumbai's iconic Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled earlier this evening, just ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Devotees were mesmerized by the sight of Lord Ganesha, or Bappa, dressed in elegant maroon attire, adorned with exquisite jewelry. One of the most striking features of this year's Lalbaugcha Raja is the stunning 20-kg gold crown, reportedly worth Rs 15 crore, donated by Anant Ambani and Reliance Foundation. This generous offering has added even more grandeur to the already revered deity.
Anant Ambani has a longstanding association with the Lalbaugcha Raja committee, spanning over 15 years. His contributions to various initiatives of the committee have been well-recognized, and he is a regular attendee at many events held during the Ganeshotsav celebrations. Anant Ambani also participates in the idol immersion ceremony at Girgaon Chowpatty Beach every year, a tradition cherished by countless Mumbaikars. In addition, through the Reliance Foundation, the Ambani family has extended their support to various healthcare-related inity Ganeshotsav, which begins on September 7, is one of Maharashtra’s biggest festivals, celebrated with grand rituals, joyiatives associated with the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the committee faced financial difficulties in continuing its social work. Anant Ambani stepped in to provide critical assistance, including donating 24 dialysis machines to support the committee’s patient aid fund. His commitment to the cause was further recognized when he was appointed an executive advisor to the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.
Lalbaugcha Raja, often called the 'King of Lalbaug,' is one of the most visited Ganesh mandals in Mumbai. Every year, people from all walks of life, from commoners to celebrities, stand in long queues to catch a glimpse of the majestic idol. The ten-daous gatherings, and a spectacular visarjan (immersion), where Ganesha idols are immersed in water bodies amid chants and music, marking the end of the festival.
