International musician Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, who goes by the name Nicki Minaj, has landed herself in big legal trouble. Having made a name for herself in the music industry, with her her songs, the singer-songwriter has gained huge popularity on social media. The Amsterdam police reportedly detained her from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport for allegedly carrying soft drugs on Saturday. As reported by LatestLy, the police had confirmed that they had arrested a 41-year-old American woman on “suspicion of exporting soft drugs,” then never confirmed her identity to be Minaj. 

For those who don’t know, Minaj has live streamed the entire incident during an Instagram Live, where the officials can be seen searching through her belongings and being interrogated. In the video that is now going viral on social media, she comes out of the airport as talks about her luggage going through a re-checking takes place. A police officer asks her to go to the police station, but she refuses again and again. She tells them that she will not be going anywhere until her lawyer arrives.


As soon as the incident came to light, fans started to express concern for the singer-songwriter. Many even started trending the hashtag, #FreeNICKI on X (formerly known as Twitter). The entertainment portal further reports that she has been released after paying a ‘reasonable fine’. The spokesperson states, “There's no reason for us to keep her in custody any longer. We have all the information on file. Case closed.”

The entire incident has left the netizens divided as many questioned what happened. While many defended Nicki Minaj, many demanded her release. Some even expressed anger at her reaction after being detained. One wrote, “Why do celebrities always think they are above the law?” Another wrote, “Love how elites think rules don’t apply.” While social media is busy speculating on the incident, official updates on her arrest are still awaited.
