Mumbai Based Casting Director Assaults An 18-Year-Old Aspiring Actress’ For Refusing His Sexual Advances; Gets Arrested- REPORTS
A Mumbai-based casting director and film editor Deepak Malakar was arrested on Monday, August 12 from physically assaulting an 18-year-old aspiring actress. A resident of Bihar, according to a report by India.com, he had allegedly banged the girl’s head to a wall after she refused his sexual advances. A case has been filed against the accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (outrage modesty), and 354 (D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the media publication, the teenager had befriended the 26-year-old accused in 2023 on Facebook. He approached the girl’s parents about two months ago with a marriage proposal, which they agreed to. They even allowed him to stay at their 1 BHK flat in Mumbai. The report states that Malakar had tried to initiate intimate relations with the girl, who wanted to try her luck in Bollywood after completing her education. 

He took her to his friend’s flat in Versova, Andheri, where he tried to sexually assault her. When she resisted him, he banged her head against the wall. Quoting a police officer from Times Of India’s report, he said, “When she resisted, he banged her head to the wall and rained blows on her face till she collapsed. Assuming that she was dead, he panicked, locked the flat from outside, and fled the city.”

The victim started shouting for help, after she regained consciousness, which alerted the neighbours who rushed to help her. As per the media publication, the accused admitted to the police that he tried to kill the teenager for refusing his advances. Quoting the police office from TOI’s report, India.com states that the Malakar had switched off his phone, but was communicating with his friends through calls from “local booths and pedestrians’ phones in Surat.” The official added, “Finally, the ATM withdrawals helped us track down his location on Monday.”
