Former Indian cricket team skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a massive fan base across the country. He is loved and adored by fans. Many across the country appreciate his efforts and contribution to Indian cricket, during his illustrious career. Like almost every celebrity, MS Dhoni is also on Twitter. And he too had a ‘blue tick’ - until Saturday. In a sudden turn of events, Dhoni’s Twitter ‘blue tick’ was removed by the micro-blogging site.

The verification tick, however, was later restored on the account -- but only after a massive outrage on social media. Fans of the cricketer took to Twitter to express their fury. One fan shared a picture of Suresh Raina morphed with a scene featuring Shahid Kapoor in the film Kabir Singh. The picture was tweeted, with the caption, “Raina going to twitter office to get blue tick for ms dhoni Blue heart #blueTick #MSDhoni.” “Hey @Twitter u Removed the Verified symbol from Ms Dhoni account but u Cant change the Fact that he is the greatest Celebrity in World Face with tears of joy #MSDhoni,” tweeted another to the microblogging site.

For the unversed, MS Dhoni’s last tweet is dated on January 8, 2021. Twitter cited that the account had been inactive since February 2021. According to Twitter verification policies, the platform may remove the blue verified badge and verified status if the account becomes inactive or is incomplete. The blue tick on a Twitter handle is to let everyone know that the social media account is authentic. The badge is only received when an account is authentic, notable and active.  

Talking about the former skipper, Dhoni was recently clicked playing football with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and others. Work wise, after announcing his retirement from international cricket last year, Dhoni has continued to play for the Indian Premier League. He will be back in action when IPL kick-starts in September.
