Her attempts to make the weight cut were extreme and took a severe toll on her health. She went hungry, avoided fluids, stayed up all night to sweat out the excess weight, and even cut her hair short. However, none of these measures sufficed. The severe dehydration caused by these desperate measures led to her being taken to a polyclinic at the Games village. On Wednesday night, Vinesh filed an appeal against her disqualification with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), seeking to be awarded a joint silver medal. The ad-hoc division of CAS, set up in Paris for resolving disputes arising during the Olympic Games, is expected to take up her case on Thursday morning.

In the aftermath of her disqualification, Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who Vinesh had defeated in the semifinals, replaced her in the final against American wrestler Sarah Ann Hildebrandt. Vinesh's retirement marks the end of an illustrious career that has inspired many in the field of wrestling. Her emotional farewell underscores the immense pressure and challenges faced by athletes competing at the highest levels. As she bids adieu to wrestling, the nation and her fans are left reflecting on her remarkable journey and the legacy she leaves behind.
