‘If India Needs MS Dhoni, He Will Come Back With Or Without IPL,’ Says Former Indian Cricketer Akash Chopra
With the Indian Premier League bring suspended till April 15, fans are concerned about MS Dhoni who they expected would make a comeback through the tournament. Now former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, who feels that IPL form was not going to be a critical factor in Dhoni’s selection in the team
COVID-19 has not only brought lives to a standstill throughout the world, but also the whole cricketing world including the Indian Premier League (IPL). This has caused difficulty for anyone trying to make a mark and get into the Indian team for the World Cup. The biggest personality in all this would be MS Dhoni who fans expected would make a comeback through the tournament. The captain of Chennai Superkings has not played any competitive game since he last played the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand.
There have been a lot of speculations about his future but he has been tight-lipped about it. An expert who has been vocal about it is former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, who feels that IPL form was not going to be a critical factor in Dhoni’s selection in the team. Talking in a YouTube video he said, “For a player like Dhoni, IPL was never going to be a yardstick. If he had scored runs in the IPL, experts would have been like ‘select Dhoni’, ‘do this and do that’. MS Dhoni knows what he is doing, whether he wants to come back or not.” This was in response to a fan’s question who asked, “what about MS Dhoni’s future if IPL 2020 gets cancelled?”
He further continued, “IPL, I don’t think was a critical factor. If he wants to come back, he will make himself available, if the selectors decide to pick him, he will be picked automatically because you won’t get experience in supermarkets. Dhoni is a hugely experienced player. If India needs MS Dhoni, then with or without IPL, he will come back.”
It will be interesting to see how the events unfold in the upcoming weeks.
