Himachal Pradesh To Arrange The Solar Eclipse Viewing In The State Capital; Aims To End Misconceptions And Superstitions
An annular solar eclipse will occur on June 21 this year and just like always, people are mainly excited to see the ‘Ring of Fire’ or commonly known as Surya Grahan. For the unversed, a solar eclipse is witnessed when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on Earth. The Solar eclipse will start at 10.23 am and last till 1.48 pm and it will be 95 per cent around noon. As people are gearing up for Surya Grahan tomorrow, according to the reports, Himachal Pradesh is set to organise a viewing session in the state for the people.

As per the IANS report, Himachal Pradesh is popularising the solar eclipse by arranging its viewing in the state capital which will be arranged by the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), amidst the Unlock 1. However, this viewing is for limited viewers near the state Secretariat and at the Ridge. The report also mentioned that the purpose of popularising and promoting the science of eclipses is because HIMCOSTE aims to remove the misconceptions and superstitions associated with these celestial events, an official told IANS.

Just for the record, a certain section of the people might find it absolutely fascinating and amusing to see the science of eclipse, but there are some people who believe in myths as they considered it to be inauspicious according to Hindu mythology. As the Sun disappears for a small period of time, it is believed that harmful entities emerge during an eclipse and one has to follow certain norm and rules during the period. Having said that, HIMCOSTE aims to end all this by arranging its viewing in the capital.
