Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is an auspicious Hindu festival and it is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is observed on the ‘Chaturthi’ (4th day) during the ‘Krishna Paksha’ (the dark fortnight of the moon) of the Hindu month of ‘Shravana’ as per the Amavasyant calendar. Whereas, Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the ‘Krishna Paksha Chaturthi’ of the ‘Bhadrapada’ month in the Purnimant calendar, followed in the north Indian states.

This year, Sankashti Chaturthi Tithi will begin on September 2 at 8:49 p.m. and will end at 6:24 p.m. on September 3.
Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi Significance
According to the Gregorian calendar, it falls in the month of August-September and is observed in the ‘Karkadika Masam’ of the Malayalam calendar. Interestingly, it is one among the 13 Sankashti Chaturthi Vratams and it is believed that by observing the Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat all the problems in life will come to an end.
The main deity worshipped on this day is Heramba Maha Ganapati this form of Lord Ganesha with five faces and ten hands. One hand of God represents the posture of bestowing blessings, while the other shows the posture of blessing. While the other eight hands hold a rudraksha, a rope, a stinger, a modak, an apple, a mala, an axe and a tuck respectively.
Heramba Ganpati is one of the 32 forms of Ganesha, as said in Hindu mythology and is depicted riding a lion.
While there is no temple dedicated to worshipping Heramba Maha Ganpati, he is worshipped as a subsidiary deity in the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, at Varanasi. It is also believed that worshipping Heramba Maha Ganpati is ideal for those who require confidence to face problems and hardships in life.
Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi Rituals
For this festival, devotees observe a strict fast from the beginning of sunrise and vrat can be broken after sighting the moon and offering prayers to lord Ganesh, in the evening. Some people even observe partial fasting by eating fruits or Sabudana Khichadi.
On this day, reciting ‘ganesha Ashtothara’ And ‘sankashtnashana Sthothra’ is considered highly auspicious. Chanting mantras dedicated to Lord Ganesha is known to be very rewarding on this day.
Meditating about this unique form of Ganesha helps to remove all fear regarding the future.
