When asked about the same, during an interview with The Lallantop, Kangana recalled the MeToo movement in Bollywood and expressed how she was left all alone to fight for the women of the industry. For those who don’t know, the Hema Committee Report was submitted in 2017, around the same time, actresses like Kangana, Tanushree Dutta, and others spearheaded the MeToo movement in Bollywood. However, despite the shocking revelations, it was all swept under the rug due to influential actors, directors, and producers “buying” the victims’ silence. ALSO READ: Mamata Banerjee Or Mayawati? Opening up about that time, the 38-year-old actress revealed that she had vocally spoken about it for all the women. However, slowly she lost their support as their “silence was bought with money.” Despite searching for them relentlessly, the women vanished. She added that some went on to sign films with the same people. The actress-turned-politician said that some of the accusers were “victims” of sexual misconduct as others would “willingly participate” in nefarious activities. Quoted by the Indian Express, she added, “I am very disappointed with these women. I was left alone, and became the problematic person.” ALSO READ: ‘Kuch Toh Journalism Ki Izzat Rakho, Ki Sab Bech Diya?’ Kangana Ranaut Calls Out Media Publication For Not Posting Her Entire Interview

Claiming that the industry had turned against her, Ranaut added, “Those women came out and then I was trying to build some pressure, but the voices were muffled. If this report was released back then, all the industries would have been united. I was left alone and then they started filing cases, trying to put me behind bars.”

The Hema Committee Report was released by the Kerala government, a few weeks ago, four and a half years after it was reportedly submitted to the Kerala Chief Minister. The 233-page document, even with redacted portions, provided a detailed report on the discrimination and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. The revelations of actresses and other female workers in the industry have created quite a storm.

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in Tejas. The movie failed to impress the audience as well as the critics and it tanked at the box office. She will be next seen in Emergency. Not only is the movie her first solo directorial, but she will also be essaying the role of India’s late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film was supposed to be released on September 6, 2024, however, now the release date has been postponed due to certain communities and organisations demanding a ban on the film. Apart from that, she also has a few other projects in her pipeline.
