Harry And Meghan Markle Call Out 'Uncomfortable Past' Of Commonwealth For Colonial 'Wrong Doings'
Former Duke and Duchess Harry and Meghan Markle are making headlines for calling out the Commonwealth, which is headed by Harry’s grandmother and the Queen of England, for their colonial wrongdoings. During a recent video call with young leaders from across the Commonwealth, Harry took a jibe at the British Empire that led to the birth of the Commonwealth. During their video chat, Harry said that we all must acknowledge the "uncomfortable past of the Commonwealth" and “it's not going to be easy” but the world must "right those wrongs".

About the Commonwealth, Harry said on the video call, “When you look across the Commonwealth, there is no way that we can move forward unless we acknowledge the past. So many people have done such an incredible job of acknowledging the past and trying to right those wrongs, but I think we all acknowledge there is so much more still to do. It’s not going to be easy and in some cases, it’s not going to be comfortable but it needs to be done, because guess what, everybody benefits.” Harry faced severe criticism for taking a jibe at the British Empire.

While Meghan said, “We’re going to have to be a little uncomfortable right now because it’s only in pushing through that discomfort that we get to the other side of this and find the place where a high tide raises all ships. Equality does not put anyone on the back foot, it puts us all on the same footing - which is a fundamental human right.”

She Markle also added, “What have we done in our past that we put our hand up? I think this is a moment of reckoning, I think, where people go, 'you know what, I need to own that, maybe I didn't do the right thing there. I knew what I knew but now it's time to reset in a different way'."

However, Tory MP Andrew Rosindell MP of the UK criticized Harry’s comment and said they were ‘disappointing’ and would not 'please' the Queen. He told Daily Mail, “'I understand that Harry and Meghan have taken a step out from being members of the Royal Family. Therefore I'm surprised that he would be making comments like that. I don't agree with what he is saying. We should look forward not back. As someone who has stepped out of the Royal Family, he should focus on his own life and not get involved in politics.”

“That is not the appropriate thing to do. I'm not sure his grandmother would be too pleased either,” he added.
