Modak which is a favourite food item of the deity is prepared and offered on the very first day of the festival. According to reports, around 1,50,000 statues are moulded every year solely in Mumbai.

Date:

Festivities shall begin from September 2, 2019, and will continue till September 12, 2019. Families do keep Lord Ganesha's idol for one and a half-day, five days and seven days and for all 10 days as well.

Muhurat:

The auspicious timings to conduct the sthapna puja on day one begins from 11:05 am and will go on till 01:36 pm in the afternoon. Hence, giving all the families good 2 hours and 31 minutes to complete their puja rituals. Also, on this day and throughout the 10 days of celebration one must not see the moon especially on the first day from 08:55 am to 09:05 pm.

Puja Vidhi:

Ganesh Puja is mostly performed by a priest mostly called Bhatji in Marathi. The puja vidhi must begin during mid-day, as according to holy books, the deity was born during the mid-period of the day. Mantras are chanted by the priest which is a 16 step puja called Shodashopachara Puja. It involves the lighting of the lamp, bathing the idol, dressing the idol and offering food items cooked for the deity.
