Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa has been at the centre of controversy ever since his arrest in June 2024 in connection with the Renuka Swamy murder case. The actor, who has a significant following, has been in a Bengaluru jail for over two months. Recently, concerns about his well-being surfaced after reports indicated that Darshan's health had deteriorated, leading to him fainting inside the jail. According to sources, including a report by Money Control, Darshan had been feeling unwell for several days, which eventually led to his collapse. This news understandably worried his fans, but it was later confirmed that the actor is stable, although more details about his condition are still awaited. Darshan's involvement in the Renuka Swamy case has shocked many. Renuka Swamy, who was employed at an Apollo Pharmacy in Chitradurga, was found dead on June 8, 2024, in Bengaluru. Allegedly, Swamy had been sending inappropriate messages to Kannada actress Pavithra Gowad, a close friend of Darshan. Enraged by this, Renuka Swamy was murdered, and his body was reportedly dumped in a canal in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, with Darshan allegedly present during the assault. Eight of the accused have implicated Darshan, further entangling the actor in the legal proceedings. Inside the prison, it has been reported that Darshan is visibly losing weight and his skin is becoming pale, signaling the toll his incarceration is taking on his health. The actor is spending most of his time reading spiritual and philosophical texts, including the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and autobiographies of spiritual leaders like Yogi and Vivekananda. Additionally, filmmaker Tarun Sudheer has sent two books to Darshan, perhaps to offer him some solace during this difficult time.
Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, recently issued a statement after visiting him in jail. She shared that Darshan had asked his fans, whom he affectionately refers to as his "celebrities," to remain calm and continue focusing on positive actions. Her message in Kannada highlighted the emotional strain the situation has placed on both Darshan and his supporters, urging them to stay composed and hopeful during these trying times.
In a show of solidarity, several figures from the entertainment industry, including Telugu star Naga Shaurya, Bigg Boss OTT Kannada fame Sonu Gowda, Rachita Ram, and Anusha Rai, have publicly supported Darshan. Their backing underscores the strong connections Darshan has within the industry and the widespread impact his legal troubles have had.
