Chocolate Modak RECIPE For Your Beloved Ganpati Bappa! READ BELOW For The Quick And Easy Cooking Instructions
Ganesh Chaturthi is a time of devotion and celebration, and naturally, Modaks are an essential part of the festivities. The joyous Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha and one of the most cherished traditions during this occasion is the preparation and offering of modaks, a sweet dumpling believed to be Lord Ganesha's favourite.

For those unaware, Modaks are sweet dumplings made with love and devotion, symbolizing Lord Ganesha's favourite treat. They hold great significance during Ganesh Chaturthi and offering these sweet dumplings to the deity is considered a gesture of love and respect. Interestingly, the shape of Modaks resembles Lord Ganesha's belly, making it a special treat for this occasion.

Traditionally modaks are made with rice flour and filled with coconut and jaggery, modern interpretations have added to the rise of delightful variations.

Let’s explore a fusion recipe that combines the classic modak with a beloved treat: Chocolate Modaks.

INGREDIENTS

For the Outer Layer (Rice Flour Dough):

1. 1 cup rice flour
2. 1 cup water
3. A pinch of salt
4. 1 teaspoon ghee (clarified butter)

For the Chocolate Filling:

1. 1 cup milk chocolate chips (or any chocolate of your choice)
2. 1/2 cup condensed milk
3. A pinch of cardamom powder (optional, for flavour)

For Molding and Shaping:

1. Modak moulds (or you can shape them by hand)
2. A little ghee for greasing the moulds (if using)

INSTRUCTIONS

For the Outer Layer (Rice Flour Dough):

1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil, add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of ghee.
2. Gradually add the rice flour while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
3. Cook this mixture on low heat until it forms a smooth dough-like consistency.
4. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for a while.

For Chocolate Filling

1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
2. Add the condensed milk and cardamom powder (if using) to the melted chocolate, and mix well to form a smooth, chocolate filling.

Shaping the Chocolate Modaks:

1. Grease your modak moulds with a little ghee if using moulds. If shaping by hand, grease your palms with ghee.
2. Take a small portion of the rice flour dough and flatten it in your palm or inside the greased mould to form a small disc.
3. Place a teaspoon of the chocolate filling in the centre.
4. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pinching them together at the top to form a modak shape. If using a mould, press the dough gently to ensure it takes the shape of the mould.
5. Repeat this process for the remaining dough and filling.
