The incident occurred on Southern Avenue amidst ongoing protests in the city, which were sparked by the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital earlier in August. Payel Mukherjee shared her harrowing experience through a video posted on her social media platforms. In the video, she described how a young man on a two-wheeler blocked her SUV and demanded that she exit her vehicle. Feeling threatened, Mukherjee chose to stay inside her car, but this decision seemed to infuriate the man. In a shocking turn of events, he shattered the right side window of her car, leaving her injured and traumatized. The glass shards caused injuries to her hand, and the actor was visibly shaken by the attack.
In the video, Mukherjee expressed her disbelief and fear, questioning the safety of women in the city. She remarked that if such an incident could occur on a busy street in the evening, it highlighted the grim reality of the situation. Her words were charged with emotion as she sobbed, reflecting on how vulnerable she felt during the attack. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the detained individual claimed that Mukherjee’s car had grazed past his bike, which he suggested might have provoked the altercation. However, Mukherjee firmly denied this claim, maintaining that she was the victim of an unprovoked attack.
