On the occasion of National Sports Day, Prime Minister launches Fit India Movement for Fit India from Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi. At the launch, he urged Indians to take a small step towards fitness and make it a daily habit and also remembered the contributions of the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand.

ANI  Tweeted, “Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches #FitIndiaMovement from Indira Gandhi Stadium, on the occasion of #NationalSportsDay. Says, "On this day a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand. He amazed the world with his his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick.”


At the event, PM Modi says there’s no investment in fitness. He said, “The government has started the Fit India Movement, but all of you have to lead it. The people of the country will carry forward this campaign and will take it to the height of success. I can say from my personal experiences that there is zero Investment in it, but the returns are unlimited."


Before launching the movement, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju had taken to social media. His tweet read, "Tremendous supports are coming from all sections of the society to participate in the Fit India Movement to be launched by PM Narendra Modi ji on August 29 at 10 am. Chief Ministers, corporates and many icons are taking amazing steps to make the programme a grand success."
