Finally you’re the Indian Idol 9, something you were wishing for since a long time...
I can't express the feeling. This show has changed my life completely. I am grateful to each and everyone who has supported me in this journey, including janta and the judges. I am here today because of my hard work. During the initial stages of the show, I was often ridiculed for my Hindi, which isn't up to the mark. I have taken up the challenge to learn the language now. I understand the language, but it would get difficult to express my feelings while singing as I don't know it too well. I am aiming at learning the language in the next three months. I would balance both Bollywood and Tollywood. It's my dream to become a Bollywood playback singer. I will rock Bollywood, but would stay grounded.
Wasn't it surreal to receive the trophy from India's most celebrated cricketer Sachin Tendulkar?
I am a huge fan of Sachin. My brother plays cricket, but couldn't pursue it as a career because of some reasons. We are both huge fans of Sachin Tendulkar. So, to receive the trophy from him in front of my whole family was a huge achievement in it itself.
How was it performing in front of other Bollywood biggies who came on the show?
It was amazing to meet these celebrities. I got to meet Sonakshi Sinha, Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma. They complimented me for my singing. However, I haven't allowed it to get into my head.
What do you think is your USP which helped you stand out and win the title?
The point isn't about winning the show. Every contestant had a unique style and talent. For instance, Rohit is very good at harkats and taan and Khuda Baksh is awesome at Punjabi songs. With me, I can sing all kind of songs. I was told by the judges that Bollywood will welcome me. I have realised that language is no barrier in music. Despite being average at Hindi, it's my hard work, will power and passion that made me the winner. This is just the beginning and I want to achieve a lot more. I am hungry for challenges now.
We hear Farah Khan has promised you a song in her next film?
Yes, that's true. She liked my voice and told me that she would like to have me sing in her next film. I feel blessed. It's a dream come true. Bollywood celebrities are very humble and when I go back, I will share my experience with my people in Tollywood.
