Television actress Prachi Tehlan is gearing up for her big screen debut in the South industry opposite superstar Mammootty in the film Mamangam. The actress who has been a former captain of Indian Netball Team has taken up acting completely now. Starting her career with Diya Aur Baati Hum, Prachi was later seen in Ikyawann and just before her big journey, Prachi visited SpotboyE office for a long chat.
The actress not only shared her excitement on her upcoming film Mamangam, but also spoke about the failure of her show Ikyawann, her take on supernatural series, social media trolling and her Bollywood dreams.
Prachi stated off by speaking about managing sports and acting profession simultaneously, "I have quit playing sports professionally and I’m now focusing on my acting career completely. But, sports mere andar se kabhi nahi jaayega. So recently, when I was in Delhi, I made sure to wake up early to go for my basketball practice and then learn how to swim. I ended up learning swimming in 5-6 days as I always wanted to learn it. When it comes to work out, my inclination is more towards sports than the gym. Sports will always be my first love because today I am an actor because of my sports". WATCH VIDEO BELOW:
The actress also adds, "Whatever I have done in my life, my height has been a big advantage to me. Be it starting my career in sports, becoming an actor, as Arzoo the character I played needed a girl who is tall and healthy. And even my biggest project Mamangam happened because they wanted a girl who can dance and at the same time look like a warrior.”
She also disclosed why she chose to become an actor leaving aside sports, "I never decided to be an actor. Acting happened to me when I was working with Accenture after completing by MBA. You have seen me since Diya Aur Baati Hum when I was like a baby in front of the camera. I got the offer on Facebook. Within three days, I was called to Mumbai and they hired me. That was the time I figured out that how big DABH was. It was such a game-changer that within a month people started recognising me at the airport and even at the market. After my 7 months journey on the show, I started getting offers. I did a couple of Punjabi films and then I did Ikyawann on Star Plus; while doing that Mamangam happened".
The actress talks about her co-star in the film, Mammootty, "He is not just a superstar, megastar or a legend. Mamooka is addressed as an emotion there for people. I realised it when I become part of this film. People told me he is very stubborn and doesn't talk much but he was very humble and down to earth with me. I have experienced him in a very different way. I never got scared of him and that's what he liked about me. We gelled up really well. He is tech savvy and suggested lot of web series to watch. He is well knowledgeable and updated about each and every film which is coming in. I am glad that I’m debuting with him and that too on a 50 crore budget movie".
Prachi who is essaying the character of Unnimaaya, a dancer, devdasi and a warrior, adds, "The film was supposed to release last year in November but makers found some glitches and they wanted to change some actor in the project. So this year, we shot the entire film again as director also got changed. And finally it's releasing on December 12. I am a non-dancer and I remember my first shot for the film was my dance number. It was a night schedule and I had hardly rehearsed for two days. I was working with Vishnu Deva who is one of the toughest choreographers. I took 25-30 takes just to do a small moment. As it was a period drama, lighting was done by candles and my accessories and clothes were so heavy that my ears used to bleed and my hand was getting scars. I used to lock myself up in my vanity van and cry".
The actress who wants to focus on films has no qualms on doing TV but supernatural series is definitely not on her wish-list.
