Nia Sharma: I Am A 25-Year-Old Girl. I Will Wear A Bikini... So What?

After a successful stint in Zee TV’s Jamai Raja, Nia Sharma is all set to tickle your funny bone with Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza. The visibly elated actress, who looked gorgeous in an off-shoulder dress, is at her candid best as we unleash a volley of questions. Excerpts from the interview:

This is your first stint with comedy...
This is my first stint with a reality show. I thought I would end up doing a Jhalak... or a Khatron Ke Khiladi, but destiny had other plans. I would watch my friend Anita (Hassanandani) doing this, but never thought I’ll be a part of it.

How was it working with Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh?
It’s an honour to share the stage with them. There is so much you can learn from them. Not for once will they make you feel that you are new here. They are famous, yet they behave just like normal people on set. They have taught me that no matter how famous you are, you don’t have to be an arrogant f***... I am sorry to use the word, but this what it is.

From Kaali to Jamai Raja, how do you see your growth as an actress?
As an actress, I see my growth as pretty smooth. Earlier, people addressed me by the name of my show’s character, but now, they call me Nia. I have no idea how the transition happened from Manvi to Roshni to Nia. Without a glitch, I have made a mark for myself.

Why did you decide to do a reality show at this point?
They offered me the money I was looking for. This one time, sometime after Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, I had applied for a home loan, but the officials told me that I didn’t have a constant flow of income and they will be unable to process the loan. I realised that I need to keep the cash coming in. This is one of the reasons I took up the show.

Your fashion sense has evolved. Who do you credit that to?

I would give myself the credit. My experiments with looks haven’t always worked out, but I have always tried to look better. I have made an effort every day. I would shop for eight hours just to pick up 2-3 dresses, which would actually look good on me. And now I do not depend on any stylist to give me the perfect dress. I get my own.

Will you wear a bikini if a script demands?
I will do that. My mom supports all my choices. As long as your parents are supportive, you know you are doing things right. So, kissing on screen and all that is not a big deal. Let’s not make a mountain out of a molehill. I wore a f***ing bikini in Dubai and everybody made headlines stating – ‘Bahu of Jamai Raja wore a bikini’. What bahu? I am 25-year-old girl. I will wear a bikini... so what?

Who do you admire in television?
I really like Mouni Roy – the way she carries herself, her dress sense and where she has managed to reach through sheer hard work. She is one chick who looks hot and makes a lot of effort to look good.

How good are you in taking jokes on yourself?
If I wasn’t good, I wouldn’t be here. As long as I am getting paid, I can take anything.

How important is love to you?
Love is very important, but it doesn’t come to me. Nobody wants to date me. I don’t mind dating an actor as long as he is good-looking and has his head on his shoulders.
