Madam Sir Actress Gulki Joshi: 'Women Are Not Paid Less Than Men In The Television Industry'- EXCLUSIVE
Gulki Joshi, who is currently essaying the role of Hasina Malik in her show Madam Sir - Kuch Baat Hai Kyunki Jazbaat Hai, is playing a fearless yet sensitive and smart cop in the show. The actress recently spoke to us at length on women empowerment and more.

Excerpts from the conversation:

Even after years of progression, do you still feel that it's a male dominated society where equal opportunities are not given to the women?
The cities have developed and there is less male dominance. Women are at times given equal and more importance here, whereas there is discrimination still privalent in rural areas.

What are your thoughts on patriarchy and what changes should be brought in to break down this setup?
People are still narrow-minded in villages, but even the small towns which are developing, there also women are not getting the opportunities they deserve. I think education is the key because if there are more educated people around, they will understand that if women are confined to kitchens they won’t do anything than that but if they are set free they can reach the moon too. If through education we can somewhere make parents understand to not differentiate between son and daughter, then maybe things will change a bit.

Gulki

Why do you feel that women centric shows work more on Television?
Because through shows we also try to educate the mass and make them understand about the problems women go through- be it sanitisation, single woman's struggle, education or employment- we talk about these topics and present it in a balanced way.

Do you feel that women are paid less than men even though they do equal amount of work?
Yes, unfortunately, it's a bitter truth in our country but it doesn’t exist in our industry but I am sure it’s in the film industry and other sectors. It is very unfortunate and there’s a research that states women are paid 20 to 30 percent less than what a man is paid.
