Bharti Singh: I Joined The Kapil Sharma Show To Help My Brother Kapil

Gone are the days when you saw Bharti Singh perform on the stage for a panel of judges sitting across. Now the comedienne will be judging contestants on her upcoming show, Comedy Dangal, with music director Anu Malik.

We spoke to Bharti Singh exclusively about her new venture, her stint on The Kapil Sharma Show, the aversion it caused between Krushna and her and a bit about her love life.

Excerpts from the conversation that followed:

What was your reaction when you offered to judge Comedy Dangal?
I was super happy. I thought finally I will get a chance to take others’ case. But when I heard that I have to judge artistes who are already so established, it made me feel extremely nervous.

Taking a decision is always a tough task, no matter what the show is. This is the first time where you will see me think and talk, because such big names will be performing in front of me, I don’t want to hurt their sentiments.

Your dangal will be with Anu Malik who has already judged many reality shows. His co-judges have had difficult experiences with him- are you prepared?
Of course, I am totally prepared for his reactions. I have the best way to calm him down- if he gets upset with me, I’ll just tell him,  'Aree, I was doing comedy' and I will be safe (laughs).

We have already shot three promos and I found him really cool. I haven’t seen his earlier shows but if he still gets upset due to me, I will go ahead and say sorry to him. 

You didn't make it to Nach Baliye 8 finale. Do you think doing the reality show was a right decision?
Doing Nach Baliye 8 was the right decision for me, especially because I got a platform to disclose my relationship with Harsh. Now, people have started loving Harsh. Girls compliment him as ‘cute’ because of his shy image.

Jealous?
Yes, many a times I do get jealous. But to be honest, when people like the one you love, you feel really good about it. Also, I keep reading in so many media reports that Bharti and Harsh are dating since two-and-a-half years but actually we have been dating since 7 years. It was just that we didn't disclose our relationship. 



What made you hide it?
Nothing, I just wanted the right time to come. We wanted to disclose it closer to our marriage or else people keep speculating about your relationship and future all the time.  

You both belong to different castes. So, which tradition will be followed in your wedding?
Yes, he is a Gujrati and I am a Punjabi. So, we will follow one culture and that is Indian. We have finalised two locations for our wedding- either Amritsar or Goa. Now, where and how we do the wedding is completely dependent on the kind of amount will be able to earn in this year.

Have you finalised your honeymoon destination?
I want to go Greece, Spain, Ibiza and Harsh is already fried listening to this because every third day I remind him about the same. Now, his response makes me feel that he will take me to Lonavala (laughs). I seriously wish that immediately after our wedding, he gives me an envelope with tickets, hotel bookings, etc.



You joined The Kapil Sharma Show when its TRPs were touching an all time low...
I didn't join the show for TRPs or money; I did for my brother, Kapil. He is my Guru. He has taught me the nuances of comedy when I was in college.

When I joined them that time the TRP of the show was 1.5 and my episode took it to 2.5. I was feeling on top of the world. I felt good that somewhere I could help him. I had signed Comedy Dangal before coming to Kapil’s show and he had also told me that when my show will go on-air, I can do that. However, I would love to join The Kapil Sharma show again if he allows me. 

Krushna Abhishek got upset with you when you joined Kapil?
It's nothing like that! Krushna is also very close to me. He was just surprised because he didn't know that I am joining The Kapil Sharma Show. Everything happened so fast that I didn't get a chance to discuss with him. But Krushna called me when his statement about he being upset with me made it to the headlines and said that, ‘Bharti, I have said this about you. Hope you’re ok with it.’ I told him it’s fine and I can never be upset with him.  



There was a strong buzz, a few days back, that Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri have also been having issues?
What? This is not possible. They are as close as Radha-Krishna. They are like brothers and can't live without each other. In case they have some differences, I am sure they will sort it out soon and come together. 

Kapil Sharma, Krushna Abhishek, Bharti Singh- all three will be fighting it out over the weekends. Who will win the race?
I feel my show will be a hit because viewers will see Bharti Singh as a judge for the first time. Just wait and watch how I will make the audience connect with me.
