TV SHOW REVIEW: Quan2co S2 Heightens Tension; Priyanka’s Refined Performance Is Impressive

The first episode of Quan2co Season 2 aired last night and it was bang-on! And PeeCee too, made an impact with her sleek new avatar. Those who couldn’t catch up with it, here’s how it went.

Episode 1 starts where Season 1 ended. And like the first season of Quantico, there are two timelines shown in Season 2 as well. While the first timeline shows Alex (Priyanka Chopra) working at the CIA and dating Ryan (Jake McLaughlin), the other timeline shows a year after her recruitment; and gives a glimpse of Alex and Ryan’s broken relationship, as she removes her engagement ring.

Coming to the timelines, we see Alex Parrish, a young professional donning a pantsuit, bored AF with her desk-job at the CIA. Along with that, we also get a glimpse of her good times with Shelby (Johanna Braddy) and Ryan. While Ryan is all set to propose Alex, a work call accidentally ruins the proposal.

Later, both Ryan and Alex realise that they have been selected for an undercover mission by the CIA. The two, along with other members go through gruelling tasks and in between begin mistrusting each other. Meanwhile, the two have a moment of togetherness and they manage to resolve their issues. When Ryan is about to propose, Alex stops him saying, “When this mission is complete, and when we’ve gone through this together, show me then.”

Beneath the humdrum of training life lied a lot of suspicion and a glimpse of the global-scale conspiracy which awaited the agents.

In the present timeline, Ryan and Alex meet at a gathering of world leaders, where they are considering putting an end to global surveillance. Alex smells suspicion and witnesses well coordinated explosions go off all around the Financial District’s perimeter. And the next scene shows a cadre of masked, armed people dressed in black swarm suit hold people hostage including Ryan, the President of the United States, and the First Lady of the United States.

Rayna (Yasmine Al Massri) and Ryan try to negotiate with the infiltrators who threaten to kill every person if their demand goes unfulfilled. They almost succeed until the terrorists reveal their real motive – to behead the First Lady on camera. Just as the blade is about to fall, the screen cuts to black... Alex, after unmasking one of the attackers, is shocked to find her FBI training pal, Jeremy. Another bummer!

All in all, the first episode couldn’t get more exciting than this. You’ll be compelled to watch and find out if the assassination happens, why Alex and Ryan’s relationship turned sour and why Jeremy is a member of a terrorist group and definitely a lot more.

As for Priyanka, she killed it and how! She looked sassy, confident and even her acting looked a lot more refined and polished. Those who complained about the twang in her accent, in Season 2, it definitely didn’t sound weird. The vulnerable moment when she chose friendship over duty brought out her humane side and she doesn’t give f*** about failing in a mission if a friend is in need. Nursing the guilt and hurt about losing her best friend Simon Asher (Tate Ellington) in Season 1, Alex is here to save people.

PeeCee no longer looks a Bollywood import making it big in Hollywood. She looks the part and she owned it.
