Shalin Bhanot On Increasing Suicide Cases: 'Mental Health Of Children Is Of Utmost Importance'- EXCLUSIVE
It is 2021and suicide cases are continuously on the rise, especially among teenagers and young adults despite all the awareness in the media. Last week the news of 17-year-old wrestler Ritika Phogat (cousin of Geeta & Babita Phogat) brought shockwaves as the reason for her alleged suicide was cited to be a case of defeat in a wrestling tournament. If the pandemic wasn't enough, last year, the rise in suicide cases worldwide broke a new record as more people succumbed to depression.

Actor Shalin Bhanot who'd been in a dark place himself & emerged as a survivor throws light on how are we impacting the young minds, "There are many professions, to succeed in which the training needs to begin right from the nascent years of a child's life. It takes years of practice to be good in one particular sport or playing a particular musical instrument, it is like a 'Tapasya' & in this bargain, a child takes in lot more than he can, more than kids his age. The Gurus, trainers, experts who are preparing these children for different levels have to understand that with being a hard taskmaster; they also need to take care of the morales of these kids, by pushing them to go beyond their level & at the same time keeping them motivated. Training them to win but also teach them the importance of losing. Children need to hear from us adults that there is no big of a deal to lose & there is a lot to gain from every defeat. These lessons in early childhood can set the path straight & help them see a new perspective on life." ALSO READ: Actor Shalin Bhanot To Make His Bollywood Debut With Badhaai Ho Sequel?

Talking about how he maintained his sanity during the lockdown, Shalin shares his learnings, "We need to register that this pandemic has been a shared trauma. Countless people lost their jobs, there were many with no food. People could not move out and socialise which is a basic need of the human mind. You couldn't meet your loved ones & unwind & share each other's emotional baggage. Moreover, with the gory details of death & illness worldwide, this is something that has happened collectively as a world for the first time affecting each one of us in some way impacting our mental well-being. And that has addressed the elephant in the room that we have to take utmost care of the mental health of our kids & our family. Be more patients, more kind & support each other in every way."
