Renowned standup comedian and rapper Munawar Faruqui has amassed a huge fan following on social media because of smart and witty remarks. He went on to become a household name when he participated and won Kangana Ranaut’s show Lock Upp season 1. While he is currently basking in his success, he never forgets his humble beginnings. During a recent media interaction, he recently opened up about the time his family faced financial struggles.

In an interview with Mashable India, he recalled the time he and his family faced a lot of debt. He went on to mention that not only did he have to give up on his education, but he had to work on jobs that paid him less so that he could somehow support his family. Munawar shared that his family ran a restaurant which didn’t work out. He started working at a gift shop after his father lost all the money and went under a massive debt.

The 31-year-old recalled that he worked an 11 hour shift at a gift shop, which only paid him Rs 850 per month. He also had to walk 3.5 kms to the shop. He then decided that it was time to do something else. During the same conversation, the comedian shared how he started a stall of samosas outside his house.

Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, he said, “My mother and grandmother would make samosas at home, and I started a stall outside our house where I’d fry them up and sell them. It was a struggle. I burned my fingers, had hot oil splutter on me. But I became a pro with time, and this business worked.”

Today, Munawar enjoys a huge social media following. Apart from being a standup comedian, he has also released two albums Gill Skill, Vol. 1 and Madari which received lots of accolades from the audiences.
