More Trouble For Pehredaar Piya Ki, Viewers Sign Petition To Ban The Show
It’s bad news for Team Pehredaar Piya Ki. Days after the show went on-air, a petition addressed to Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting (Additional Charge), calls for a ban on the ‘family drama’.
Sony’s new TV
show, Pehredaar Piya Ki, has been receiving severe backlash from netizens ever
since its trailer dropped. The show, which showcases a romantic relationship
between a 10-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman, has been accused of promoting
social evils like child marriage and justifying the act of ogling and stalking
women.

Now, Pehredaar
Piya Ki is in trouble, yet again. Reason? A petition on change.org addressed
to Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and
Broadcasting (Additional Charge), calls for a ban on the show.
The petitioner,
who now has 36,282 signatures (and counting) in support, wrote: “A 10-year-old
impressionable little kid ("piyaa") caressing and stalking a lady
who's more than double his age and filling sindoor in her "maang"
is being telecasted at prime time, family time. Imagine the kind of influence
it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers' mindset. We want a ban
on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such TV serials.”

Surekha Rao And Richa Anirudh's Twitter Post
You may recall
that soon after Pehredaar Piya Ki went on-air, TV heartthrob, Karan Wahi,
blasted the show’s producers for selling ‘stupidity in the name of content’.
In response,
Suyyash Rai, who is an integral part of the show, said, “they have worked
really hard on the show and their intention to to entertain viewers and not
promote child marriage”.
Gaurav Gera too
took a dig at the show’s content.
Furthermore, in
an exclusive interview with SpotboyE.com, child actor Afaan Khan’s (who essays
the role of 10-year-old Ratan) father, revealed that he has no issues with
the plot and people are reading too much into it.
