Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a captivating anecdote about the legendary actress, Helen. He highlighted her remarkable journey, detailing how she fled the Japanese occupation of Burma during World War II in 1943 and sought refuge in India. Known for her exceptional dancing skills and iconic character roles, Helen was born in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar). Subsequently, Helen found her breakthrough opportunity at the age of 19 in 1958. Her standout performance came with the song 'Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu' in the film 'Howrah Bridge,' alongside the iconic actor Shammi Kapoor. Amitabh Bachchan further elaborated, "Helen, along with her family, fled Myanmar, then known as Burma. To reach India, they undertook a challenging journey, trekking through vast expanses of wilderness, crossing rivers, navigating mountains, and forests in 1943, evading the Japanese occupation of Burma.' "Despite the hardships, she emerged as a renowned actress in our film industry. Her mesmerizing dance performances never failed to captivate the audience," shared the Piku actor.


Helen and Big B have graced the screen together in several notable movies, including 'Mohabbatein,' 'Don,' 'Sholay,' 'Amar Akbar Anthony,' 'The Great Gambler,' and 'Ram Balram.' In the iconic film 'Sholay,' she made a special appearance in the memorable track 'Mehbooba Mehbooba,' leaving an indelible mark with her performance.
