The world of TV has gone into a state of profound shock as they woke up this morning to the news of the death of Gautam Adhikari. He passed away in the wee hours of this morning due to cardiac arrest at 2:30 am. He was just 67.

Gautam's funeral will be at 11 AM from his residence of Shri Adhikari Villa. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.Gautam was a writer by profession, who along with his brother Markand Adhikari had introduced the family based channel SAB (Shri Adhikari Brothers) TV. Gautam has given some of the most popular shows to the viewers of all ages. The channel was really popular and some of the shows like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah have been running for over 10 years now. The channel was the first publicly listed television production company in India after it got listed on the BSE in 1995.

However, later SAB TV was sold off to Sony.

The two brothers started their production house much before they began SAB TV. Their production house was started as a small business and it flourished in the later years. The production house won several awards for its contribution to Television. They introduced standup comedy on small screen with the show Made in India, which became one of the most popular serials in 1998. They also offered the first thriller and music based programmes on TV.

Coming back to Gautam, he has directed several Marathi TV shows. He even set a record for the highest number of hit TV shows. This record was also mentioned in Limca Book of world records.
