FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Bigg Boss Season 10 Has Potential For Truckloads Of Drama

A lot rides on Bigg Boss Season 10. The last one failed to make any impact even with tough tasks and challenges, and was constantly panned for lack of scandals. Remember the not-so-cool cool group? Which is why this year, we think as part of spicing things up, the makers have introduced the aam aadmi contingent along with the celebrities.

Clever move, considering their different backgrounds and outlooks will definitely provide fodder for much-needed drama. After all, we don't watch Bigg Boss for its pretty decor themes, do we? The host Salman Khan (yes, he is as charming as ever) introduced the audience to 15 contestants yesterday – 7 celebs and 8 commoners. The celebrities on board include Miss United Continents 2016 second runner up Lopamudra Raut, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actors Rohan Mehra and Karan Mehra, former Roadies contestant Bani Judge, Uttaran actor Gaurav Chopra, Bollywood villain Rahul Dev and Bhojpuri siren Monalisa.

I thought the celebrity line-up was better than the last year's. No? The aam aadmi contingent comprises Swami Om Ji Maharaj, Manveer Gurjar, Nitibha Kaul, Lokesh Kumari Sharma, Akanksha Sharma, Manoj Punjabi, Priyanka Jagga and Navin Prakash, all who are supposed to be the harvested from across the country for their promising ability to incite drama inside the house. We shall see about that.

Although for a short while, Deepika Padukone brought in the much-needed glamour quotient to the evening. The actress, who came to launch the 2ndtrailer of her Hollywood debut xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, looked ravishing in an embellished dress and thigh-high boots. Equally gripping was her trailer. Deepika has kicked some major ass in the film (

Coming back to the premiere, from the looks of it Swamiji and Lokesh Kumari are going to be the most entertaining commoners. While the former couldn’t stop ranting about how he is here to make the world a better place, the latter’s banter and periodically-timed hair flicks gave me a crick in the neck. The highlight of the episode was Deepika’s priceless expression as Swamiji entertained her with his ‘wise words’. You have got to watch it, in case you missed the episode.

Of the celebrities, my vote goes to VJ Bani. The outspoken contestant is sure to give the show its ample share of fights, and TRPs (imagining a fist fight here). The rest somehow, failed to come across as strong personalities capable of providing any headline worthy content. However, Bigg Boss has started throwing interesting googlies already. In fact, it was announced that the commoners will be the maliks while the celebrities are the sewaks. The maliks will get to sleep on cozy single beds while the celebrities will have to struggle it out on a common bed. Bigg Boss and his ways. Phew!

Will the contestants manage to grab audience’s eyeballs as Bigg Boss throws them in tricky situations on a day-to-day basis? Or will the fate of this season be the same as last year's? Let’s wait and watch.
