Actress Samatha Ruth Prabhu became a household name after her stint in Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man. She stole the hearts of the audience with her portrayal of Raji. She went on to break many stereotypes with her item song Oo Antava in Allu Arjun-Rashmika Mandanna starrer Pushpa: The Rise. She is back from her hiatus to undergo treatment after she was diagnosed with Myositis in 2022. During a recent media interaction, she opened up about doing the song and revealed that she was very uncomfortable with her sexuality.
Samantha spoke about the same during her session titled ‘Splendid Miss Samantha: From Pushpa to The Family Man, carving her own niche’ at the India Today Conclave 2024. Having left fans impressed with her versatile performances and charming personality, she spoke about doing a show like The Family Man and her item song in Pushpa, which is still one of the chart-busting songs. However, she revealed that it was a challenging task for her. She explained that one good thing about not having too many people around is that one doesn’t need to cater to many opinions, however, the flip side is that it allows people to make mistakes and learn from them. Shedding light on how she never felt confident in her sexuality and often thought she wasn’t pretty enough, the 36-year-old actress stated that this led to her decision to do the item song. Quoted by India Today, she shared, “The decision to do ‘Oo Antava’ came from the place where I had to explore that facet of being an actor. I have always been very uncomfortable with my sexuality. I am not very comfortable or confident. Having extensively worked in the Tamil and Telugu industry, the Kushi actress stated that Oo Antava was a huge challenge for her as during the first shot she was “shaking from fear because sexy is not my thing.” Prabhu added, “But, how I have grown both as an actor and as a person is that I put myself in the most difficult circumstances and fight to overcome them. That is like how I am slaying these demons.”
On the work front, last seen in Kushi, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be next seen in the Indian adaptation of Citadel. Co-starring Varun Dhawan, the web-series will mark her second collaboration with filmmakers Raj & DK after Family Man 2. She recently announced the launch of her production house Tralala Moving Pictures in collaboration with the Hyderabad-based entertainment company Mandoa Media Works.
