Bhavatharini Raja breathed her last in Sri Lanka, as she was undergoing treatment for liver cancer at the age of 47
Tamil musician Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatharini Raja left for her heavenly abode at the age of 47 on Thursday, January 25, 2024. She breathed her last in Sri Lanka while undergoing treatment for liver cancer. The singer passed away on Thursday evening leaving her family, friends, and admirers heartbroken. According to a report by Pinkvilla, her mortal remains will be brought back to Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Friday, January 26.
As per the entertainment portal, once her body is brought back, the family will perform her final rites. Netizens were quick to take to social media to express their shock and extend heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. For the unversed, Bhavatharini made her debut in the music industry with the song Masthana Masthana from the movie Raasaiya. She gained a lot of fan base due to her melodious voice. She became one of the most sought-after singers in the industry and lent her voice to many albums which were composed by her father Ilaiyaraaja and brothers Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja.

Talking about her journey in the music industry, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2001, for her song Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu in the movie Bharathi. The music director of the song was her father. After establishing herself as a credible singer, she also ventured into music direction. He composed the music for the Revathi directorial Mitr, My Friend (2002).
She didn’t limit herself to the Tamil music industry. She even entered the Telugu and Hindi entertainment industry with Avunna and Phir Milenge. It was in June 2012, that the late singer took the responsibility of scoring tunes for Vellachi, a village-based project. She left no stone unturned to showcase her versatility in the music industry.
Her untimely demise has indeed left a huge mark in the industry and the hearts of her admirers. Bhavatharini was married to R, Sabariraj, an advertising executive and the son of S.N. Ramachandran, a former journalist who founded Kannan Advertising. She leaves behind a legacy that will always be remembered by her fans.
