Dhanush BASHED For His Speech About Buying Home In Rajinikanth's Neighbourhood in Chennai For THIS Reason!
Dhanush recently talked about moving into the neighborhood of Rajinikanth and his comments weren't well received among netizens for this reason!
Tamil superstar Dhanush recently faced criticism for his speech at the music launch of his upcoming film, "Raayan." The event, aired on television over the weekend, caught the attention of many viewers due to Dhanush’s attempt to project himself as an "outsider" who worked hard to buy a house in Poes Garden, a prestigious neighborhood that is home to icons like Rajinikanth and the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Given that Dhanush is the son of an established filmmaker in the Tamil film industry, his comments have sparked backlash. During the event, Dhanush addressed the reactions that followed his purchase of a house in Poes Garden. Speaking in Tamil, he remarked, "If I knew buying a house in Poes Garden would have become such a big topic of conversation, I would have simply got a small apartment. Should I not buy a house in Poes Garden? If I live in a street, I remain to live in a street only?" He went on to share the backstory of his decision to buy the house.
Dhanush recalled an experience from when he was 16, riding through Cathedral Road in Chennai with a friend. As a fan of Rajinikanth, he wanted to see the superstar’s house. After getting directions and spotting a group of police officers, he and his friend were guided to Rajinikanth’s residence but were instructed to leave immediately after. Excited after seeing the house, they noticed a crowd outside another house, which they learned was Jayalalithaa's residence. Dhanush recounted thinking that someday he wanted to own a house in such a posh locality. He described his Poes Garden house as a gift to his 16-year-old self, Venkatesh Prabhu (Dhanush’s birth name).
While his story was meant to be aspirational, many social media users criticized Dhanush for attempting to portray himself as an outsider. Critics pointed out that Dhanush comes from a film family, contrasting him with self-made actors like Rajinikanth and Jayalalithaa. One X user commented, "Rajinikanth and Jayalalitha are self-made actors. He is a Nepo kid! How dare he compare himself with them." Another added, "Bro thinks he is Rajini. Dhanush is simply overdoing it now."
The criticism continued with others expressing disappointment in Dhanush’s speech. One user wrote, "Great actor – on screen and unfortunately off the screen too. Immense respect for Dhanush, the actor but have lost considerable respect for him as a person. Disappointed!" Another questioned his motives, stating, "I like Dhanush. As an actor. That said, not sure why he is still going all out to impress Rajni. Not only that, when was this Poes Garden house thing ever an issue? I don’t even see it anywhere. Seems like he wanted to speak highly of himself, that’s all."
Dhanush's attempt to share an inspirational story about his journey and accomplishments ended up being perceived by many as an attempt to align himself with self-made icons, which did not sit well with his audience. The backlash highlights the ongoing scrutiny and expectations faced by celebrities, particularly those with industry connections.
