Malayalam Filmmaker KG George Passes Away At The Age Of 77 At An Old Age Home; Fans Pour In Condolences On Social Media
KG George breathed his last on Sunday at an old age home on the outskirts of Kochi
Veteran Malayalam filmmaker and national award winner KG George has left for his heavenly abode at the age of 77. He passed away at an old age home in Kakkanad, on the outskirts of Kochi on Sunday. According to a report by Hindustan Times, he was undergoing treatment for a stroke when this happened. He suffered a stroke five years ago. Another report by India.com states that his funeral will be most likely held on Tuesday.
Netizens, politicians and celebrities from the south entertainment industry have taken to social media to express their shock at the late filmmaker’s untimely demise. Many even extended their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. He is survived by wife, playback singer Selma George and their two kids, reports The Hindu.

Talking about his notable works, the director reinvented Malayalam cinema as he delivered many classic movies. Over his three-decade long career, he made several critically acclaimed films which made him a recipient for a national award for Swapnaadanam (1976) and even nine state film awards. He was also a part of movies like Ulkaddal (1979), Onappudava (1978), Yavanika (1982) and Adaminte Variyellu (1984). He has left a long lasting mark on the industry.
Owing to his outstanding contribution to the Malayalam film industry, in 2015, he was also selected for the J C Daniel Award, Kerala government’s highest honour. Having started his journey in the 1970s, he broke away from the stereotypical song-and-dance sequences of the films to discuss problems faced by people in their daily life, through his work. He established himself as one of the greatest directors in the Malayalam industry.
