Yo Yo Honey Singh Opens Up About His ‘Bipolar Disorder, Psychotic Symptoms’; Rapper Says, ‘Mai 12 Joint Peeta Tha Din Ke’
Musician Yo Yo Honey Singh has had an interesting professional journey so far. He became one of the most sought-after rappers in the Hindi entertainment industry during the 2010s. Despite all the fame and success, he experienced a downfall shortly after due to his addiction to drugs and his mental health issues. It took him around seven years to recover. Now, in a recent interview, he has opened up about his journey and dismissed the claims that he was admitted to rehab to recover from his drug addiction.

Recalling the time when he was at the top of his career but addicted to drugs, the 41-year-old revealed that he continuously smoked joints for two and half years. He went on to reveal that he would smoke 12 joints every day. The singer-rapper went on to add how, its been around a decade that he has left it all behind. Singh also expressed that he was recovering from the addiction by himself and dismissed the media claims of him being in rehab. Speaking about it to The Lallantop in Hindi, quoted by the Free Press Journal, he said, “I smoked hash (charas) for two and a half years because of which I went it. Ganja ka dada ji hote hai hashish, aadmi pagal ho jata hai. Mai 12 joint peeta tha din ke, log 2 pi le toh khatam ho jaye, jo bhi kiya extreme kiya hai. This all started in 2012, and 2014 mai jab tak mera crash nahi hua sab kuch, jaise hi khatam hua sab kuch maine usse chod diya. Today it's been 10 years I haven't had it. Honey went on to add that there were a lot of fake reports about him in the media when he was recovering, however, he never issued any clarification. He shed light on the fact that he never attended rehab, but stopped consuming drugs when he lost everything in life. It made him realise that he was dealing with a mental health issue. It was during that time that he realised he was suffering from psychotic symptoms and bipolar disorder. 

The Brown Rang hit-maker added, “Merko bauth sar bipolar disorder, psychotic symptoms aane lage the, mera bauth bada show chal raha tha India Best Raw Star, I was the main judge of the show, I had a tour with Shah Rukh Khan, I was the brand ambassador of Etisalat in Dubai, I was doing lot of things. I started getting symptoms.”


On the work front, Yo Yo Honey Singh had made the headlines for reuniting with Sonakshi Sinha and Urvashi Rautela for sequels of his hit songs with them. Desi Kalaakar’s follow-up song Kalaastar and Love Dose’s sequel Second Dose, received mixed reactions from the audience. He recently released his latest music album Glory. He is all set to star in his documentary ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous,’ which will delve deeper into his stardom and fall. The Mozez Singh directorial will stream on Netflix.
