Recently, SpotboyE.com got talking to famous singer and lyricist, Swanand Kirkire during our podcast- 9XM SoundcastE. The episode was a part of a lyricist special series where the guests speak on the on-going dispute of lyricits not getting credits on streaming platforms. Lyricists Varun Grover and Kausar Munir were also a part of this podcast.
Swanand spoke about the issue at length and felt that even in the past many renowned lyricists like Anand Nakshi, Javed Akhtar have raised their voices for the same cause. He also feels that this should not be a problem in a digital age where it's all about easy access to communication and information.
"Digital is liberation. And we are living in such a world now, toh waha par bhi yeh kyun ho raha hai? It is an issue of basic intent, culture and sensibility. Aapne soch liya toh phir ek naam hi toh dena hai. Aaisa kya hai usmien?" said Swanand.
The singer also talks about his love for Kishore Kumar and S.D. Burman. He also shares that he has not taken any professional training in music and has learnt by listening to his parents and other legendary singers.
