Rapper and musician Yo Yo Honey Singh introduced rapping Bollywood movie songs. He was one of the most sought-after singers of his generation. Having climbed the ladder of success rather quickly, collaborating with actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, his downfall was just as swift. From being addicted to drugs to getting diagnosed with various mental health issues, he has slowly been opening up about his recovery journey. Amidst all of it, his now ex-wife Shalini Talwar accused him of domestic violence and other offences.

For the unversed, Honey and Shalini had tied the knot in 2011. They filed for a divorce in September 2022, under which Honey has to pay her an alimony of Rs 1 crore. Their divorce was finalised in November 2023. Now he openly addressed his painful separation from Talwar and how they drifted apart after he started distancing himself from his family. Talking about it, during an interview with The Lallantop, he revealed that the first 9-10 months of their marriage were good, however, things started going south after he started traveling a lot for work. Once he had a taste of success and fame, he started neglecting her and left her. Quoted by the Bollywood Shaadis, the 41-year-old singer-rapper said, “Our relationship wasn't very good at that time. There was distance between us because I was travelling a lot. For the initial 9–10 months of our marriage, things were good. But then success and fame got to my head. When that happened, I neglected my family and had completely lost myself in money, fame, addiction, and women. I did terrible things. The Angrezi Beat singer also shed light on the “big and influential names” that introduced him to substance. He said, “Few names, few very big and influential names. They had teased me. I was so badly addicted to these substances that I was always high. Most of the time, I was unaware of myself and my surroundings.”


On the work front, Yo Yo Honey Singh had made the headlines for reuniting with Sonakshi Sinha and Urvashi Rautela for sequels of his hit songs with them. Desi Kalaakar’s follow-up song Kalaastar and Love Dose’s sequel Second Dose, received mixed reactions from the audience. He recently released his latest music album Glory. He is all set to star in his documentary ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous,’ which will delve deeper into his stardom and fall. The Mozez Singh directorial will stream on Netflix.
