Arijit Singh Reacts To Gerua Controversy For The FIRST Time At A Kolkata Concert; Says, ‘Saffron Is Colour Of Swami Ji, Had He Worn White’
Renowned playback singer Arijit Singh has left the audience mesmerised with his singing talents. Owing to his soulful voice and hard-hitting lyrics, he enjoys a huge fan base amongst the music enthusiasts. Known to stay away from the public glare, the singer found himself in the midst of a controversy in December 2022, which led to his concert in 2023 getting cancelled.

Well, the singer who has reportedly gotten into trouble for singing one of his iconic songs ‘Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua’ from the film Dilwale in front of chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the Kolkata International Film Festival in December 2022, has now opened up about the controversy. While performing at a Kolkata concert on February 18, the Tum Hi Ho singer questioned why there was so much controversy over a colour. Quoted by Free Press Journal, he said during his concert, “So much of controversy over a colour. Saffron is the colour of Sanyasis, of Swami Ji (Vivekananda). Had he worn white, would there be a controversy over the white colour as well?” If reports are to be believed, Arijit performed at the concert for almost four hours and even sang the song that was picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Talking about the entire Gerua controversy, BJP has alleged that Arijit’s concert was cancelled due to his insensitivity. However it was later clarified that the permission for the concert was not granted to avoid a clash with India’s  G-20 Presidency. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim had also revealed that another event of Salman Khan was also cancelled for the very same reason.

This is not the first time such an outrageous controversy has been sparked because of a colour. Recently, the makers of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan came under the radar, after the actress was spotted wearing a saffron coloured bikini in the song Besharam Rang, as the colour holds significance in Hindu religion.
