Alka Yagnik Gets Diagnosed With ‘Rare Sensory Neural Nerve Hearing Loss’; Singer Reveals, ‘Suddenly Felt I Was Not Able To Hear Anything’

One of the leading Bollywood playback singers of the 90s and 2000s, Alka Yagnik impressed the audience with her high-pitched vocals and melodious voice. Over the years, she left her admirers smitten with her songs. Having given voice to many celebrated actresses in the Hindi entertainment industry including Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi, she recently took to her official social media handle to make a shocking revelation, which left her fans heartbroken. In a lengthy penned note, she revealed that her doctors have diagnosed her with a ‘rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss’ due to a sudden ‘viral attack’.
Taking to her Instagram handle, Yagnik shared an old photo and addressed the heartfelt note to her fans, friends, followers, and well-wishers. She explained, “A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything.” She went on to reveal that she built up the courage to talk about it weeks after the episode. The Taal Se Taal Mila singer revealed, “It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unaware. As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers.”
The 58-year-old singer went on to advice her fans and young colleagues to minimise their exposure to loud music and headphones. She added, “One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour.”
As soon as the post was published on Monday, fans immediately took to the comment section and showered her with well wishes and love. One wrote, “It must have been terrifying, I can't imagine what you are going through. Praying for your recovery, our beloved nightingale.” Another wrote, “Wishing you a speedy recovery. These are the real side effects of the technology world. We must often not overdo and keep it as simple as possible. So sad to hear for you Alka ji.”
