Ustad Rashid Khan, the esteemed music maestro breathed his last at the age of 55. He was receiving treatment for prostate cancer and enduring other long-standing ailments, the 55-year-old musician passed away at the city hospital's critical care unit, according to an official statement. The classical music artist was recently shifted under intensive care and reliant on ventilation and oxygen aid after getting a brain stroke. His health deteriorated following a cerebral attack a month ago. Initially, he sought medical attention at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, later choosing to exclusively pursue treatment in Kolkata.

Belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, Ustad Rashid Khan is the great-grandson of the gharana's founder, Inayat Hussain Khan. Renowned for his musical prowess, he's a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Padma Bhushan. Khan's repertoire includes numerous popular songs in Bengali and Hindi films like My Name is Khan, Kadambari, Manto, and Mitin Mashi. Among his most memorable renditions is the emotionally resonant 'Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna' from the movie Jab We Met.
At 11 years old, Rashid Khan held his debut concert, followed by a notable performance in Delhi in 1978. Recognized for his fusion and film compositions, he garnered praise and accolades, including the Padma Shri for his contribution to classical music.
