Late Nilkanth Krushnaji Phule aka Nilu Phule was a respected actor among the Marathi entertainment fraternity. Phule was a talented stage and film artist who brought his own flavor to every character with the dark undertone in his voice and his brooding eyes. After experimenting in Marathi folk drama - loknatya and successful theatre performances like Katha Akalecha Kandyachi, that went on to have over 2000 shows, he debuted Marathi film industry with Ek Gaav Baara Bhanagadi in 1968. There was no looking back for Phule after this hit!

Nilu Phule played the character of an unusual and cynical young man in Vijay Tendulkar’s Sakharam Binder. The play was first staged in 1972 and instantly became a famous work of art depicting the harsh reality of a neglected section of the society.
Bajirao, Film: Pinjra
The actor played a convincing villain in the epic Marathi love story of a Tamasha dancer and a respected school teacher. Nilu Phule went down in history in this Sandhya and Sreeram Lagoo film.
Gajanan Chitre, Saaransh
Mahesh Bhatt’s Saaransh is the story of an elderly Maharashtrian couple living in Mumbai who comes to terms with the loss of their only son. Nilu Phule’s character of a cruel politician made the film even more convincing.
