The Crown Season 3 Trailer Review: The Netflix Show Is About To Get Darker
A jump in timeline, a brand new exciting cast and a whole lot of drama awaits us with the third season of Netflix’s popular show, The Crown. Here’s our review of the trailer.
Weeks after the first look and with less than a month to go for the premiere, The Crown Season 3’s trailer dropped recently. The Crown has been a Netflix favourite show based on the life and times of British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. With Claire Foy playing the Queen in the first two seasons, the third season has a new cast and a new timeline in the retelling of the Queen’s life.
The first thing you notice about the trailer is the time jump. We are now in the 60s and 70s, a tumultuous time for the Queen and Britain. Oscar winning actress who we have earlier seen in shows like Broadchurch and Fleabag, Olivia Colman now wears The Crown. Her portrayal of the Queen in the trailer is different from that of Foy’s – she looks formidable.
In terms of the tone of the show, the third season also looks like it is going to get darker in terms of subject matter. The Queen is approaching her Silver Jubilee, and her country seems to be falling apart. The show will delve into some of the biggest events taking place in Britain at the time – including the financial crisis, the Cold War, the approaching of a digital age.
The inner politics of the Buckingham Palace are also in full show in the third season. There is deepening sibling rivalry between the Queen and her sister, Princess Margaret who is sick of being the second in spotlight. We also see a young Prince Charles who is falling in love with a young Camilla Parker Bowles, much to the dismay of everyone in the Palace.
New angles to explore and a brand new cast, The Crown Season 3’s trailer suggests that the show is approaching a whole new level of greatness.
The Crown Season 3 will be streaming on November 17th 2019.
