Masaba Masaba Review: Neena and Masaba Gupta's Unapologetic Depiction Of Their 'HOT MESS' Is Applaudable!
6 episodes and you want more! Masaba Masaba is an out and out entertainer- a perfect balance between high level drama and reality bites
Did you know that Masaba Gupta is also a natural when it comes to acting just like her mother, Neena Gupta? That's the first thing which hit me once I was 20 mins into the first episode of this web show, designed around the life story of ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupta.
Masaba Masaba is a total entertainer at all levels. It's packed with glamour, high level drama, reality bites from the designer's life, fantastic performances, not just by the Gupta ladies but also the supporting cast- Rytasha Rathore as Masaba's bestie Gia, Neil Bhoopalam as Dhairya Rana, Satyadeep Mishra as Vinay.
The show opens with Masaba's divorce story and the blind item which was written while she was struggling to figure out her seperation. It then graduates to her other life problems- related to work, relationships, friends, her equation with her mother and so on.
Neena Gupta is a marvel and I don't know why she had to wait for work for so long to entertain us with her acting skills. The show beautifully unfolds her journey to find work and reinvent herself, until she bags Badhai Ho (the Ayushmann Khurrana-Sanya Malhotra starrer with Gajraj Rao).
The mother-daughter chemistry is fantastic and it is difficult to gage whether the camera is rolling while they talk. It's as good as seeing them in their own house LIVE.
But that does not mean there is only realism, because the show is punched with a lot of drama in terms of Bollywood backdoor stories, goof-ups at fashion shows, behind the scene realities.
The look and feel of the show is on point. Well, if it's about Masaba then you can't really question the style quotient of the show, can you? The lady is seen sporting some really funky, chic, kickass wardrobe. Neena Gupta has also been styled elegantly and if you still haven't fallen in love with her dressing, you surely will after watching Masaba Masaba.
The fact that Masaba has projected herself so naturally on-screen without any inhibitions- be it for her appearance or her personal life- deserves an applause. It's a bold move to bring your life and its HOT MESS on screen with so much grace.
I totally recommend binge watching this one as the episodes are of 30 mins and just 6 of them. Masaba Masaba gets a 4 star from me.
