Netflix’s hit drama, The Crown is returning for its fifth season. Reportedly, the shooting of the fifth season will begin in July while the new season will also see some new members joining in. Speaking of the new cast, today, the makers of The Crown have now introduced a new member in the fifth season. Meet actor Jonny Lee Miller, the Elementary star, who will be essaying the role of John Major (former U.K. Prime Minister) in the hit series. Sharing the news on Instagram account, the makers wrote, ‘Jonny Lee Miller will play John Major in the fifth season of The Crown.’
Major served as the Prime Minister of the U.K. and leader of the Conservative Party from 1990 to 1997, and his reign coincided with the last few years of late Princess Diana’s life. The series is based on the chronicles of Queen Elizabeth and her monarchy. Actor Imelda Staunton plays Queen Elizabeth, Lesley Manville plays Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce essays the role of Prince Philip, and Elizabeth Debicki features Princess Diana. Netflix’s series The Crown won the Best Television Series- Drama in Golden Globe while the series also bagged Screen Actors Guild Awards 2021 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a drama series.
Meanwhile, according to the reports, the shooting will take place at Elstree Studios starting in July, under strict COVID-19 protocols. The latest season will show the Royal Family’s tough time as Princess Diana and Prince Charles will head for a divorce in the series.
